Description

The Blackmagic Media Player 10G is a high-performance capture and playback solution, featuring cutting-edge broadcast technology. It offers dual 12G-SDI outputs for fill and key playback, 12G-SDI capture, and 10G Ethernet, enabling users to utilize DaVinci Resolve 19 as both a media player and replay tool for live production and broadcasting, all through a single Thunderbolt connection.

DaVinci Resolve 19

DaVinci Resolve 19's Cut page introduces new media player, editing, and replay features. It supports all common video formats, including those with alpha channels for broadcast graphics, outputting them as 10-bit SDI fill and key. The new multi-source viewer enables easy visual media browsing and multiview playback of matching clips. "On air" controls allow seamless integration with switchers, automating playout to air with a single button. DaVinci also supports automatic stingers, making it an ideal solution for news and replay.

Broadcasting Features

It can be placed on a desktop or rack-mounted with a Blackmagic Universal Rack Shelf. The front panel features an LCD displaying video and audio meter status, including input, video standard, and frame buffer depth, with audio meters switchable between VU and PPM. It also has a headphone socket, speaker, and a speaker enable button—double press to lock the speaker on. The front Thunderbolt port allows easy connection to a computer, ideal for control room setups.

Thunderbolt Connection

Thunderbolt for fast video capture and playback, 10G Ethernet, and laptop power—all through a single cable. With Thunderbolt ports on both the front and rear, it supports both rack-mounted and laptop setups. It handles large 4:4:4:4 and 4:2:2:4 files with alpha channels in SD, HD, and Ultra HD up to 2160p60. Compatible with most video software via the DeckLink API, the bidirectional Thunderbolt link allows real-time capture, processing, and output, turning computers into powerful graphics engines.

Multiple Connection Options

Program fill and key outputs can be muted until replay begins, while dedicated 12G-SDI and HDMI monitoring outputs stay active for setup. It also features balanced audio out for powered speakers, 12G-SDI video input for live switcher multiview monitoring, and 10G Ethernet for fast access to shared storage. An extended desktop supports the DaVinci UI, with USB expansion for a keyboard and mouse.

Supports Independent Fill and Key Outputs

With dual 12G-SDI outputs, Blackmagic Media Player connects to live production switchers for overlaying broadcast graphics with transparency. It supports RGBA and YUVA frame buffers, automatically transcoding RGB pixels to 10-bit YUV on the fill output and the alpha channel to the 10-bit key output. The two SDI outputs can be keyed over video, ensuring smooth blending of transparent elements.

Simultaneous Capture and Playback

Uses the same Desktop Video software found in DeckLink and UltraStudio solutions, enabling real-time, bidirectional video transfer with minimal latency. This allows you to capture video from the SDI input while simultaneously sending video to the SDI outputs, turning the computer into a powerful processing engine.

High Speed Ethernet

The 10G Ethernet port on Blackmagic Media Player provides access to network storage via the Thunderbolt connection, eliminating the need for extra adapters. It offers speeds 10 times faster than regular Ethernet, ideal for handling multiple video streams in replay work. With low latency, it enables quick access to shared media and ISO recordings, and works seamlessly with Blackmagic Cloud Stores, allowing multiple editors to collaborate in DaVinci Resolve.

10‑Bit Broadcast Video Quality

Supports capture and playback in popular formats like Apple ProRes, DNxHD, and 10-bit uncompressed, ensuring flexibility in file formats. 10-bit video offers four times the colour precision of 8-bit, providing the highest quality with perfect pixel-for-pixel reproduction. This ensures sharp green screen keying, seamless VFX, and superior colour correction.

Popular Video Software Compatible

Ideal for broadcast editing and color correction with DaVinci Resolve. It supports simultaneous capture and playback, allowing live grading, color correction, and output in real time. It also works with other editing software like Final Cut Pro, Media Composer, Premiere Pro, and more, enabling stunning visual effects in Fusion, After Effects, and Photoshop.

Broadcast Graphics Tools

Works with Fusion (DaVinci Resolve's integrated VFX software), as well as Adobe After Effects and Photoshop. Fusion Studio is a powerful node-based VFX tool with 2D/3D environments and hundreds of effects. Fusion is available for free in DaVinci Resolve. You can use Blackmagic Media Express to capture and play back video, which can be loaded into Fusion, After Effects, or Photoshop.

Ultra HD and 4K DCI Film

Supports the latest Ultra HD video standards via its 12G-SDI connections, including 2160p up to 60fps and 4K film standards like 4Kp23.98, 4Kp24, 4Kp30, and more. This makes it perfect for broadcasters transitioning to Ultra HD and 4K. Plus, it can be software updated to support future television standards.

SD, HD and 2K DCI Film

Blackmagic Media Player's 12G-SDI connections are multi-rate, supporting SD and HD resolutions for archive or broadcast use, including formats like 525i59.94 NTSC, 625i50 PAL, 720p, 1080p, 2K, and DCI standards. It also supports switching between level A and B when connected to 3G-SDI sources.

Traditional RS-422

Blackmagic Media Player includes an RS-422 deck control input, a widely used protocol in broadcast since the 1980s. This allows remote control of software supporting the remote port, and also supports additional commands for managing disk recorders with the Advanced Media Protocol.

Custom Solutions

Easily develop custom solutions for Blackmagic Media Player by downloading the free Blackmagic Desktop Video SDK for Mac, Windows, and Linux. The SDK offers both low-level hardware control for flexibility and high-level interfaces for common tasks. Used by thousands of manufacturers, the SDK ensures a reliable foundation for creating commercial-grade broadcast solutions.
